Dieser "Horsehead" ist wohl einer der bekanntesten aller Dunkelnebel und befindet sich im Sternbild Orion.  Er ist auch bekannt unter dem Namen Barnard 33, der ihn Ende 1800 auf einer Fotoplatte entdeckte. Diese Kopfform wird durch eine riesige, molekulare Wolke gebildet, die aber auf einer Langzeitskala laufenden Veränderungen unterworfen ist, da die dort entstehenden Sterne den Staub erhitzen und das Gas ionisieren. Somit wird man in einigen tausend Jahren von dieser Pferdekopfform nichts mehr erkennen. Bereits die hochauflösenden Bilder vom Weltraumteleskop Hubble lassen diese Form kaum noch erkennen.

This "Horsehead" nebulae might be one of the best known dark-nebulae in the constellation "Orion".   It is also known as Barnard33, E. Barnard discovered it 1800 on one of his foto-plates. This shape of a horse-head is formed by a huge molecular cloud but will be changing on a longterm time scale by young stars heating up the gas and ionizising it. In another thousands of years one will no more see it like that. Even today hight resolution images of the Hubble telescope don't show well this form any more.
